Margaret Hansen has been on the board for the last three years, serving as our Vice President and now the Treasurer. She and her family has been instrumental in holding our kids races over the years volunteering here in Kotzebue and last year holding a kids race in Ambler. Paul and Margaret also volunteered to hold the Kobuk 440 Junior Race (thirty miles) last year to their camp last April and plan on doing it again this year. Her family has volunteered to house mushers every Kobuk 440 and have been in charge of coordinating the end of the year banquet.
She currently works for the State of Alaska as the Local Government Specialist out of Kotzebue for the last thirty-three years and is currently the President of the Northwest Arctic Borough School District Board, previously the treasurer for twelve years serving on the school board for the last fifteen years.
Margaret and Paul have been raising and racing dogs for the last 25 years and have taught all their sons to run dogs since they were five years old. Paul Hansen finished in the Iditarod in 2017 and their son Kevin Hansen finished the Kobuk 440 in 2017. Their family loves to hunt, fish, and camp all their lives and love to share their experiences with their friends, family, teachers, and kids of the Northwest Arctic.
