Quince Mountain started mushing in 2014. Of his starts, he says “Mushing is something I never expected to do-it was my wife’s hobby before we married, and I gave it a try once just for fun. Of course, I was hooked. I say all the time that getting on a sled behind a team of dogs for the first time makes adults into children, and to this day l find that joy and exhilaration irresistible. In the past seven or eight years, I’ve been transported by dog team to so many gorgeous places and wonderful communities that I can no longer imagine how I’d be me without the experiences these dogs have given me. Our dogs are courageous and strong, smart, curious, and fun as all get out. I can only hope that some of what they have rubs off on me.” Quince has competed in the Kobuk, Iditarod, Percy DeWolfe, Canadian Challenge, Midnight Run, Goose Bay 150. He was awarded vet care award for Canadian Challenge and Percy DeWolfe. His lead dog for the 2025 Kobuk 440 is Dora. Quince says he is looking forward to Racing above the arctic circle with old friends and one of my favorite trails! He is sponsored by #uglydogs, Camp Chow, TDS Weather, ATAO kennel, Ross's Fishing Emporium and would like to thank his wife Blair. Quince says he can’t wait to see everyone in Kotzebue!
