2022 Taaqpak 120 Musher Bios
Kevin Hansen was born into a mushing family and has always enjoyed following the Iditarod and Kobuk 440 and especially enjoyed his family hosting mushers as a young kid. He grew up running dogs, participating in local sprint races, then transitioned to distance mushing. Hansen placed 2nd in the 2021 Taaqpak 120 and 4th in the 2021 Kobuk 440. His lead dogs are Yaager and Lake. Hansen is sponsored by Paul and Margaret Hansen and Maniilaq Association. He would like to thank his family, Greta Schuerch & Kade Hansen for their support, as well as his parents for letting him race their dogs. A special thanks goes out to his dad who has raised most of the dogs. Dempsey Woods, Sr. has been mushing his entire life in the Upper Kobuk and Kobuk River drainage. He is the three time champion of the Taaqpak 120 and in 2021 he had his best finish in the Kobuk 440 of 6th place. Dempsey's lead dogs are named Cagney and Sandy. He is sponsored by Mark Keller, Northwestern Electric, June's Boys, and his wife and kids.
Jim Bourquin was born in Seattle grew up in Eastern Washington. He came to Kotzebue in 2009 and has competed in the Noatak 120, Arctic Circle Championships, and Kobuk 440. His lead dogs are Chewbacha and Biggie. Bourquin is sponsored by NIHA.
