The Kobuk 440 is a dogsled race that starts in Kotzebue, Alaska. The 440 mile race crosses some of the most magnificent and pristine land in the world. High atop the globe in the Arctic Circle, the race follows ancient dog mushing routes that link rural communities during the long cold winter. The distance between communities is often vast. The trails cross large bodies of ice, long winding rivers, flat barren tundra and densely wooded mountains. As Spring arrives the daylight gets longer the temperatures begin to rise and the weather becomes very unpredictable. Cold blustery nights may become warm afternoon snowstorms that may give way to dense fog. All of these factors combine to create a wonderful stage for the Toughest Race above the Arctic Circle. The race marks the end of winter and the approach of summer for the many people that live here. It's an all volunteer effort of people from many different backgrounds. We all have the same goal, to preserve the Inupaiq culture and traditions of Northwest Alaska by hosting fair and challenging mid and long dogsled races. WeThe address for the Kobuk 440 Racing Association is PO Box 410, Kotzebue AK 99752. Email address is kobuk440@gmail.com Given that we are a small group of dedicated volunteers we do not have the
