Paul moved from Denver to Kotzebue in 1980, and became interested in mushing shortly after. Initially, he mushed for recreation, traveling throughout the region, and then began entering sprint races in the early 90s. He, his wife, and their four boys participated in many Kotzebue Dog Mushers' Association sprint races, and he served on the KDMA board for many years. About 10 years ago, he transitioned into distance mushing, running the Taaqpak 120, the Nome/Council 200, the Kobuk 440 (three times), as well as the Iditarod in 2017. He joined the Kobuk 440 board a few years ago, and is looking forward to continue supporting mushing in Northwest Alaska for years to come. |
